Looking over my horses this weekend, my husband and I are definitely noticing that this 100 degree heat wave that we have been experiencing here in Kansas has not just been taking a toll on us, but the horses as well. Just like humans, when a horse is really hot, they tend to not have an appetite, so in turn they don't eat anything. As a result, they start to lose muscle mass along with weight and can get dehydrated easily. It's important during these hot days of summer, that our horses have an alternative supplement that they take that will encourage eating and drinking, along with providing the horses with sugars and electrolytes that they need to stay fit and healthy when it's so gosh darn hot!
Equine Hydration Pellets by Tech Mix is an awesome supplement for this exact situation. This supplement is a tasty, buffered electrolyte hydration pellet with multiple vitamins and energizing agents in it. It will help maintain fluid balance to prevent dehydration in hot weather or times of stress. Its highly palatable formula provides electrolyte replenishment and encourages feed and water intake. Feeding this supplement to your horse 2 ounces daily before the dehydration has the chance to kick in, your horse will make it through the summer heat without any issues (dehydration issues that is). However, if you don't get on top of the dehydration as quickly as you would have liked, top-dressing 4-8 ounces daily should help the horse tremendously. I would highly recommend these pellets to anyone who is having the same issues as we are with our horses, too hot to eat and drink so they are losing weight. :(
There's the age old saying: you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink. Boy does that hit the nail on the head! Rhonda
