Dog and cat spot-on flea treatments are very effective and are an easy way to administer a form of flea treatment for your dog and cat. Each package will contain an insert to explain the process of applying the flea treatment which you have purchased. Be sure to read these instructions carefully. This explanation is meant to be a general guide in applying these treatments.
1. Find a time to apply the spot-on flea treatment when your pet is comfortable and relaxed (maybe before bedtime.) Avoid the need to have to fight with your pet and having to pin the animal down in order to administer the spot-on treatment. If you have to pin your pet down, this will create a real negative association with administering a spot-on treatment and make future treatments much more difficult.
2. Be sure the seal to the treatment is broken before attempting to start the procedure.
3. Part the cat or dogs fur at the nape of the neck so that you can see the skin underneath. Be sure to apply the spot-on treatment directly on the skin as the spot-on needs to be in contact with the skin. Some larger cats and dogs will require the dose of the spot-on treatment to be applied in 2 or 3 areas further along the spine. If this is required, the treatment instructions will direct you to do so.
4. Do not squeeze the treatment out too quickly. The treatment needs a few seconds to be absorbed on to the skin and fur surrounding it.
