My husband will tell you the first thing you need to do before you work with a horse’s feet is to spray them down with a good fly spray. It's important for the horse to stand very still while being worked on, and if the horse keeps moving around trying to get the flies off of them, it's going to take you a heck of a long time to work with their feet. Before we do any farrier work, we like to use Pyranha Wipe N' Spray as our fly control. It's effective, cost friendly (price breaks when order large quantities), and comes in a spray bottle (my preference) or an aerosol (Dan's preference). So needless to say, we have both bottles on hand.
For our barn spray, we use the Pyranha concentrate. There are two concentrates that Valley Vet offers: 1-10 HPS and 1-10 HP. The HPS makes 30 gallons of spray, where the HP will make 55 gallons. Simply add water, mix, put in a fogger or whatever spray system you use, and you are set! Rhonda
