It's crazy to think, but we are getting closer and closer to needing to be prepared for fly control for this year. It's important that you take control of your fly situation now, before it becomes something that you can't get a grip on. An effective way to do this is to get some fly predators.
These tiny insects come in a little pouch in the mail, and all you do is spread them over the manure, and the little guys will attach to the fly larva and kill them before they have a chance to hatch. Attaching to the fly larva before the flies hatch is the key to effective fly control.
The fly predators are made by Spalding Labs, and their website has an awesome instructional video on the predators. There is a calculator that will let you know how many predators you need simply by putting in your total amount of animals you have and your zip code. The fly predators are an amazing product that I would recommend to anyone, but remember: the key to having them be successful is to start early in the season before the fly larva hatch! Rhonda
