I talked to Keith McKean from Madera, CA on the phone today, and he was enthusiastically ordering the Revenge Sticky Fly Tape. When someone stops in the middle of a hurried order to tell me, "This is the best fly control I've found!" -- I stop and listen. He was willing for me to share his experience in a blog -- in hopes you might get control of these bovine and equine (and human!) pests too.
Keith owns three horses, but his neighbors have eleven more than him. He says they "pack up their little bags and come over" to his place. So he got ready with the ultimate trap. He bought the Revenge Kit with Mounting Hardware complete with pulleys, anchor bolts, extra take-up reel, strong metal mounting brackets and a hand crank. He places sticky tape reels in three places: under his tin horse cover, under his barbecue patio, and in his garage.
Keith says he gets great results by "horseshoeing" the tape into a "U" in his areas. The pulleys are attached at the corners of the roof and then when the tape is full, he simply cranks the handle and wraps up the old tape and exposes the new. He doesn't have to handle the dead flies, just crank them away. He does give the advice that with the amount of tape he has up, it can be hard to crank when it's cool out. When it warms up in the afternoon and the tape is softer, it is easier to turn.
All in all, Keith says that this is his most cost effective method. He has so many flies when he first puts up the tape, he has to turn his crank the next day. But with using Fly Predators and this Revenge Tape, he is able to keep the potentially thousands of flies under control.
