Take the Gallagher Weigh Up Challenge!

Have you ever taken a culled cow to auction and been surprised by her weight? If you don’t have an on-farm scale, you probably rely on the age-old visual method of “guesstimating” weights.

Guess right every time and you’re ok. Guess wrong and you could unintentionally make mistakes that impact herd health. When you think about it, weight is at the core of most herd health decisions. The dosages of dewormers, parasiticides, antibiotics and other medications are all based on weight, and proper dosage size is crucial to their success.

So, for fun, let’s see how good you are at “guesstimating” weights. Take the Gallagher Weigh Up Challenge. In the online contest, you’ll see actual video footage for three groups of cattle and enter your guess for each. You’ll then see the animals’ actual weights and know how close you were. You must register with their site first, but it’s quick and easy. Well worth the time and a lot of fun. There are also some great prizes at stake!
